Aircraft Details
Bombardier updated their 5000 model with the all-new Global 5500, offering a smooth ride, a more spacious cabin, and increased range. This a long range jet debuted in May 2018 alongside its big brother, the 6500 model, at EBACE2018, an annual business aviation event in Geneva, Switzerland.
This long range jet is on pace to enter service in 2019, and will offer a redesigned interior, a luxurious, wide-open cabin, and new ergonomic seats. Rolls Royce Engines improve performance, increase range, and offer an overall smooth flight. The Global 5500 will connect passengers to international city pairs including New York and Moscow, Los Angeles and London, Miami and Tahiti, and Hong Kong and Berlin.
Cabin
The Global 5500 offers a spacious interior for up to 16 passengers, and 4K displays throughout the cabin. Passengers can also fully customize their seating, with innovative Nuage seats that feature tilt systems, deep recline, floating bases for fluid movement, and tilting headrests for superior comfort.
A lavatory is available at the front of the cabin, while a fully enclosed aft lav features a shower and wardrobe to keep passengers refreshed during long flights. Ka-band technology is on-board to provide hyper-fast internet connectivity up to 35x faster than other aviation systems.
Performance
Rolls-Royce designed the all-new Pearl 15 engine specifically for the Global 5500/6500, delivering a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.90 to each aircraft. Bombardier redesigned the wings, which were built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries; combined with the RR Pearl engines, the 5500 increases the range by 500 nmi over its predecessor, ideal for executive and luxury globetrotters.
This long range jet offers a maximum range of 5,700 nautical miles (NBAA IFR reserves, ISA, M 0.85, 8 pax /3 crew). Please keep in mind that actual range of any aircraft will change based on speed, weather, passenger/luggage totals, and other factors.
The runways requirements for take-offs is reduced to 5,490 feet, while requiring only a 2,207 foot runway for landing. Maximum payload will allow for 7,139 lbs, with a max take-off weight of 92,500.
The cockpit features the Bombardier Vision Avionics, integrating 4 display screens, a Heads-Up-Display (HUD), and the combined vision system (CVS), reducing pilot workload, increasing awareness, and offering the clearest view when flying in bad weather.
