Based on the hugely successful Bombardier Challenger 600 series of large-cabin business jets, the Challenger 605 is the successor to the CL-604 and was certified in 2006, entering service in 2007 less than a year after its maiden flight.
The 600 series is based on the wide-body design pioneered by Bill Lear, who created the LearStar 600 in the late 1970’s. The idea was sold to Canadair, a division of Bombardier, and the fifth generation of the 600 series has been an integral part of the company’s continued growth as a global leader in business aviation.
The 605 offers 14 percent larger windows than the 604, the most advanced cockpit available in any 600 at the time, and one of the widest cabins in its class, a signature feature of the 600 family.
The cabin width of 8’2″ is one of the widest available in a large jet, and its height of 6’1″ and overall length of nearly 30 feet give passengers the feeling of being in a comfortable living room rather than a compact cabin. The larger windows provide excellent views during your flight, and allow in plenty of natural light to reduce strain during long hauls.
Passengers have access to their belongings throughout their flight, the lavatory has been ergonomically re-designed, and reduced noise make rest and work more productive in one of the quietest cabins available.
Flight Deck upgrades include Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics and a 55% increase to display area thanks to four 10″ x 12″ LCD screens, and Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) capabilities to reduce paperwork. Optional equipment includes the Bombardier Enhanced Vision System (BVES), allowing pilots to observe runway conditions and lighting in low visibility/dark conditions, improving overall situational awareness and safety of operations.
