Aircraft Details
Cessna’s CitationJet series is one of the most economical high performance business jet lines on the market. Since it’s initial offering in 1991, the CJ series has seen a variety of improvements to continue pushing the boundaries of performance, all while maintaining its class-leading low operating costs.
This continued in 2004, when Cessna introduced their Model 525B – the Citation CJ3. Cessna improved their platform with more cabin space, higher payload capacity, newer engines, and the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 integrated avionics system.
The result? An incredible 6-8 passenger light business jet, with some of the most advanced navigation and information management systems in private jet tech to provide pilots with outstanding situational awareness. The Cessna 525B is best suited for short to medium range flights with a nearly 2,000 nm range, along with higher cruise speeds at lower fuel burn than the CJ2.
Production of the 525B lasted from 2004 through 2018, with more than 500 models delivered; models that were produced before 2009 sold for $3.5 million before jumping to $5.0-5.5 million.
And, even if they’re not the most luxurious jets available, they just might be the most popular for luxury and business travel. Executives appreciate the idea of a bottom-line thinking private jet that doesn’t sacrifice comfort, performance, or reliability.
In fact, the CJ3’s exceptional performance compares to similarly priced turboprops, allowing business travelers to charter a Citation CJ3 and fly faster and farther without the higher costs.
Interior
The CJ3 business jet adds two feet of cabin space to its predecessor, the CJ2, offering six club-seats in center-style configuration, with customizable layouts to accommodate as many as eight passengers and two crew members.
The spacious interior of the Citation CJ3 features comfortable leather seats, luxurious accents, a polished wood refreshment center, folding workspace tables, 110-volt AC power outlets, and an enclosed lavatory. 14 windows let in plenty of natural light, while improved LED cabin lighting offers more comfortable illumination during night flights.
An external baggage compartment keeps the cabin from getting cluttered, while an in-cabin baggage compartment can easily be accessed mid-flight for any essentials.
Performance
Cessna is known throughout business aviation for producing reliable, high-performance private jets at affordable costs, and their 6th gen CJ business jet helped solidify their reputation.
The Citation CJ3 is a high-performance light jet with a range of around 1,800 nm and cruise speeds of 478 mph, giving it the ability to fly non-stop from New York to Miami.
Both maximum payload and fuel capacity are increased compared to the 525A, and despite the added weight, it still flies faster thanks to upgraded twin Williams/Rolls-Royce FJ44-3A engines, each delivering 2,780 lbs. of thrust on takeoff — that’s 480 lbs. more than the CJ2.
The CJ series is also known to perform well on short runways, and the Citation CJ3 needing only 3,180 feet to takeoff, getting you in and out of some of the most challenging small airfields.
CJ3’s cruise at Mach 0.73 (560 mph; 423 kn; 783 km/h) MMo at FL450 and are rated for just over 1,900 nmi (3,500 km) with 4 passengers, or more than 2,000 nmi (3,700 km) at slower speeds, which actually exceeded Textron’s expectations. Hourly operating costs include 165 US gal (620 l) fuel burn, $313.60 engine maintenance, $251.72 parts, and $298 labor cost.
Cessna Citation CJ3+
The Cessna Citation CJ3+ jet improves upon the superior reliability, productivity and comfort of the CJ3. The CJ3+ adds a variety of improvements, starting with a completely redesigned cockpit featuring the three-screen Garmin G3000 avionics package, which includes the GFC-700 autopilot. In the cabin, the interior of the CJ3 Plus is updated with new, fully-articulated seating with folding arm rests to offer more aisle room. Entertainment options include the Clarity Wireless system for movies, XM radio, Wi-Fi and Internet.
